CommonDataHub FAQ
Why does CDH provide different account types?
CDH has provided different Account type options to address the diverse needs of our customers. Descriptions and advantages of each type of Account can be found by clicking on the links next to each Account type on the right side of the main CDH page, under the Create your Free Account heading.
Can I download a dataset as a delimited file?
Yes. Data sets can also be downloaded in Excel, HTML, or PDF format. Note that for payable data sets, you will need to first purchase the data to be able to download the entire data set. For more information on downloading data sets, you can access the How-to help file by clicking on the question mark icon from within a data set that you are viewing.
How do I search for a particular subset of values?
First, select the data set where you would like to perform the search. Make sure you are on the Filter Criteria tab. From this screen, one or more filter criteria can be entered. To apply the selected filter, click on Next. For more information on filtering, you can access the How-to help file by clicking on the tips on using the filter/browse screen link on the Datasets page, or by question mark icon from within the data set that you are viewing.
How does CDH guarantee the accuracy of the data sets?
For all data sets and standards available on CDH, data is pulled directly from the respective source. Data source information for each category of data can be found by accessing the Info page link next to each data set name. All ISO standards found on the site come directly from ANSI, as CommonDataHub is a designated official ANSI/ISO reseller. In cases where data is manipulated to provide additional attributes (such as NDC Codes), CDH has secure, automated scripts that are executed periodically, and thus eliminate the need for manual manipulation of data.
How do we guarantee that the most recent data is provided?
All reasonable commercial attempts are made to keep the information on CDH up-to-date. The frequency of changes to data varies among the different data sets. Frequency of data updates performed by CDH can be found on the Info page link next to each data set name.
Why is there a subscription cost for datasets that are provided freely by the dominant source? Example: ISO Country Codes
Depending on the dataset, subscription cost provide different services. For ISO datasets, CDH provides near real-time notification of changes made to the datasets to our subscribers. This would otherwise require you to go periodically to ISO website and somehow detect if there are any changes.
For other datasets such as NDC codes, in addition to being notified on changes, CDH provides data in a flattened structure and multiple code formats which is easier to navigate as well as load into individual systems.
Is there a conflict of interest with the Standard provider - example ISO if we charge for the same datasets that they charge for too?
For all the datasets that we publish on CDH, we have confirmed authorization to publish and charge subscription for it - including from ISO. The subscription charge is for a value-added service that CDH provides that in most cases the Standard provider is not able to.
