Country Codes

Background
Numerous standards organizations around the world issue universal Country codes – ISO, US FIPS, NATO, and so on. ISO codes, issued by the Organization for International Standards are the most commonly used for Country codes. Country lineage has changed around the world as countries merged and split over time. There are quite a few attributes associated with Countries that are used in various contexts by different organizations that are owned and published by specific organizations.
